"Self-Portrait" in the Collection at the Figge Art Museum, Davenport, IA
In Self-Portrait, Theodore Thomas Wood presents an objective view of himself seated under scraps of "painted" landscapes that refer to both a specific time and place and the inevitability of change. Theodore Wood, has taught art and art history for many years at St. Louis University. As a realist painter, Wood has maintained an interest in recording figures much as Edward Hopper did-in anonymous, dispassionate settings that never seem to relinquish their "everyday" connotations.
